harbor lights

The “Dancing Christmas Trees” during the Harbor Lights Winter Festival at Jones Park in Gulfport on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2021.

A massive holiday lights display once featured in a Lifetime hit movie is back along the water on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and it'll soon be open to the public.

The city of Gulfport is launching its ninth annual Gulfport Harbor Lights Winter Festival this weekend. Coined as "Mississippi's Largest Christmas Light Show," the holiday display will feature over 1.5 million lights in Jones Park.

Jones Park is about 90 minutes from the New Orleans metro area via Interstate 10 to U.S. 49, then drive down to Mississippi Highway 90.

Visitors can check out the lights, hop on carnival rides, cook up s'mores at warming stations, ride through the park on a train and snap pictures with Santa Claus.

Once you've taken a trip to the Gulf Coast festival, it isn't hard to see why Only in Your State named it the "Most Magical Show in Mississippi." You may even recognize the festival from "Christmas in Mississippi," a hit film that plays on Lifetime.

The winter festival is open from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Nov. 24 to Dec. 31. It is closed Christmas Eve, but gates will open again Christmas Day. For more information on ticket prices and parking, visit the city of Gulfport's website
