Festivals and art shows are among the events planned around the metro area this weekend. For a glamorous good time, look for a gala fund-raiser.


Just a few miles upriver from the French Quarter lies another bit of lively history this weekend when the River Road Historical Society stages the annual FALL FESTIVAL at Destrehan Plantation, 13034 River Road in Destrehan. The Saturday and Sunday festival, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., features a wide assortment of craft vendors from throughout the country, plus antiques purveyors and more. No South Louisiana festival is complete without food and music, and both will be joined by activities for children, including crafts. Admission is $9, with tours of the historic home extra. New Orleans Museum of Art's Odyssey Ball commemorates the city's birth

Step into the night and get a bit "starstruck" at the ODYSSEY BALL. Put on the glad rags (dress to dazzle) and head over to the New Orleans Museum of Art for "Starstruck: A Fashion Odyssey," the City Park art haven's annual gala fundraiser, with a focus on looking fabulous. Rebirth Brass Band will provide the score, with food, cocktails and a journey into the sights, sounds and sensations of the museum. Tickets for the gala, Friday at 8 p.m., start at $150. The Crescent City Coin Club puts the silver and gold into play for the season at the COIN SHOW Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Columbus Room, 3310 Florida Ave., Kenner. The National World War II Museum keeps things busy with a VETERANS DAY COMMEMORATION CEREMONY Saturday at 11 a.m. at the US Freedom Pavilion at 945 Magazine St. All veterans will get free admission to the museum. Also, the complex will celebrate the opening of "OUR WAR TOO: WOMEN IN SERVICE," an exhibit recognizing the efforts, struggles, and accomplishments of the nearly 350,000 American women who served during the war. Music and history will be on tap on The Eleventh Hour of the Eleventh Day of the Eleventh Month Saturday at 11 a.m. at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon Ave., Metairie for the MILITARY BAND HONORS VETERANS CONCERT. The Marine Forces Reserve Band five-piece brass group will strike up a program of songs that will include a salute to all the branches of the military, including the new Space Force. Historic Columbia Street in downtown Covington becomes an al fresco gallery for all types of art for the THREE RIVERS ART FESTIVAL Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Selected by a jury of artists and professionals, the 200 exhibitors  will show their wares in the form of paintings, drawings, sculpture, glass, jewelry, fiber and more. Cyclists on Mississippi River levee in Jefferson Parish

"The Ride of the Region" is the theme for the 17th annual TOUR DE JEFFERSON bicycle ride Sunday, a family-friendly way to experience the scenery of the region. Organized by the Jefferson Chamber, the ride attracts cycling enthusiasts from around the country. The four different routes vary in length, from 11 to 50 miles. The ride starts and ends at Estelle Playground, 5801 Leo Kerner Parkway, Marrero, beginning at 8 a.m., with riders needing to show up by 7:30 a.m. to participate. Registration starts at $50. Get bowled over with this fun event to help raise funds and awareness Sunday for PINS FOR PARKINSON'S at noon at Fulton Alley, 600 Fulton St. in the Warehouse District. Team Fox NOLA's event helps the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Disease Research. With bowling, games, a chance to watch the Saints on the big screen, food and beverages plus the sounds of the Kinfolk Brass Band. Tickets start at $50. Check out the strikes here.
