Oktoberfest events abound this time of year. But at Port Orleans Brewing, that theme changes to Ochstoberfest with local rockers Better Than Ezra on stage and a cause that hits close to home around the Uptown brewery.
Ochstoberfest returns Friday, Oct. 27, to the brewery at 4124 Tchoupitoulas St., from 3 p.m., with Latin Jazz band Otro Quarto at 4 p.m. and Better Than Ezra at 6 p.m.
There’s a Halloween costume contest, seasonal beers and food from Avo Taco.
The event will transform the beer garden, essentially offering an intimate backyard concert setting with a band that fans normally see in much larger venues.
Ochstoberfest is a fundraiser for Ochsner’s integrative oncology program, which supports people fighting cancer with a range of holistic therapies, from yoga to acupuncture.
“It's helping people fight the fight,” said Don Noel, Port Orleans Brewing president and managing partner. “We saw an opportunity to help people to prepare themselves to fight cancer, and the maintain themselves through the fight and after the fight is done.”
Port Orleans Brewing hosts many events in its beer garden, from game watch parties to pet adoption days. Ochstoberfest is a marquee event here, and has contributed more than $100,000 to Ochsner since its inception, said Noel.
Tickets are $65 in advance, $85 day of show.
